It's hard to beat the Drive-by Truckers at the Fabulous 40 Watt with the Futurebirds opening. My first Futurebirds experience was last January in Pensacola. They were opening for DBT that nigth as well and really stole the show. I was blown away by their energy and steel guitar-drenched psycadelic country sounds. I was excited to see them in their hometown of Athens, GA opening up DBT's annual three-show run. They didn't disapoint.

Athens is a homecoming for DBT. In the early days, the 40 Watt provided the band with a venue to cut their teeth and build an audience. Each year, the band kicks off the year with a January run. This year's opening night gig was fun and full of favorites.
Shonna Tucker had recently left the band. Long-time band friend and producer David Barbee filled in on bass, adding lots of thump and energy along with his share of wrong notes. No worries though.
